All-Candidates Debate for the 2019 Federal Election
On Thursday, October 10th, 2019 the Park Royal Community Association, along with the other South West Mississauga Ratepayers Associations held an all-candidates debate for the riding of Mississauga-Lakeshore.
Over 200 local residents came out for an informative and engaging evening of political debate at Clarkson Secondary School on Bromsgrove Drive.
The debate included five candidates running for Minister of Parliament in Mississauga-Lakeshore:
- Adam Laughton, NDP
- Sven Spengemann, Liberal Party
- Stella Ambler, Progressive Conservative Party
- Cynthia Trentelman, Green Party
- Eugen Vizitiu, People’s Party
The debate was moderated by PRCA Board member Trevor Isaac and Sue Shanly, President of the Meadow Wood Rattray Ratepayers Association. A committee comprised of members from various South West Missisauga residents’ associations planned and organized the evening. Questions for the debate participants were developed with input from all associations and asked by volunteers. Audience members also had opportunities to ask the candidates questions, either by writing them down or submitting written questions.
The evening was a great success representing an important facet of our democracy – namely, the open and civil debate of ideas in a public forum.
