Enhancing Sandgate Park

Late last year, the City posted a small sign proposing a leash-free dog zone be built on green space in Sandgate Park next to the backyards of existing residential homes. Neighbours have expressed concern that a leash free dog zone in a small park next to neighbouring homes will be seriously disruptive. This poses many issues such as noise from barking dogs, extra traffic with no place to park, and unsightly mess. The City announced in April it was not proceeding with the dog zone.
Our community is losing green space fast. Sandgate Park should be a community gathering place. The City replaced the children’s playground equipment last year. We need your ideas so we can pass them along to the city.
What Amenities Could Enhance Your Park Experience?
Here are some ideas:
- Year-round outdoor exercise equipment
- Covered area with picnic tables
- Year-round permanent games tables with outdoor seating (ie., chess/checkers)
- Community garden (vegetable, flower, landscaping)
- Open-air picnic tables/areas
- Additional park benches and shaded seating
- Soccer/baseball field
- Tennis courts
- Art installation
- Splash pad
- Drinking fountain
- Additional garbage/recycling bins
Councillor Alvin Tedjo is hosting a public meeting about the future direction of Sandgate Park on April 15, 2025 at Lorne Park Library at 6:30 p.m. Let’s ensure our park reflects our community’s values and meets the needs of all residents.
